Most people know the Arcata Chamber for ribbon cuttings, First Thursday Mixers, and big community events on the Plaza. But membership includes a handful of practical perks that don’t get talked about as much, and some of them can save you real time and money.
If you’re a member, here are seven worth a second look. If you’re not a member yet, this is a good picture of what you’d get.
1. A bulk mailing permit that saves on postage
Sending postcards, flyers, or a seasonal mailer? Members can use the Chamber’s bulk mailing permit, which can save you up to 40% on postage. For a small business doing even one or two mailings a year, that adds up.
2. Free help from our in-house media team
This is the one members are most surprised by. The Chamber offers free media services to members. Our in-house media coordinator can help with:
- Creating graphics
- Filming social media videos
- Writing radio scripts
- Creating print ads
It starts with a conversation about your goals and the best path forward. Many projects can be finished within one business day. When your content is ready, the Chamber cross-posts it to our 5,000+ followers and adds it to the email newsletter. For bigger projects, staff will work with you and your budget.

3. Members-only Business Field Trips
Field Trips are behind-the-scenes tours of local businesses, and they’re free and exclusive to members. Groups are capped at 10 people, so everyone can hear the guide, ask questions, and really take part.
They’re a great way to learn how other businesses work and to build deeper connections. And if you’d like to show off your own operation, you can apply to host one.

4. Booth discounts at the biggest events in town
If you sell at community events, membership pays for itself quickly. Members get booth discounts at:
- The 4th of July Jubilee on the Arcata Plaza
- The Arcata Bay Oyster Festival
- The Arcata Friday Night Market
5. A spot in the monthly newsletter
Have a sale, a class, an event, or big news? Send it to the Chamber. Members are included in the Monthly Newsletter when they send promotional content, and the Chamber also reposts and shares member stories on Facebook and Instagram.
6. A listing on the directory and the Member Map
Every member gets a free listing in the member directory (opens in a new tab) and a pin on the interactive Member Map (opens in a new tab). Locals and visitors use both to find places to eat, shop, and hire. Take a minute to check that your listing is up to date.
7. A discounted Cal-Ore Life Flight membership
Members can get a Cal-Ore Life Flight household membership at a discounted rate of $79 per household. It’s a small thing, until the day it isn’t.

- Ribbon cuttings and open houses. Opening, expanding, or celebrating a milestone? The Chamber supports ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, and open houses.
- The mic at mixers. At First Thursday Mixers, members can get noticed by sharing news on the microphone during the “buck a cluck” period at the end. You can also host a mixer or donate a door prize.
- Recognition. Members can be nominated and promoted at the Annual Business Leadership Awards.
- A seat at the table. Serve on the Board of Directors, as an Ambassador, or on a committee.
